OBAMA'S DEBORAH
RELIGION The Heritage February, 2009 43
OBAMA'S DEBORAH
Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. And she would sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the mountains of Ephraim. And the children of Israel came to her for judgment. Then she sent and called for Barak the son of Abinaom from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him , “has not the LORD GOD of Israel commanded, Go and deploy Troops at mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons Zebulon; and against you I will deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude at the river Kishon; and I will deliver him into your hand? “ And Barak said to her “If you will not go with me, then I will not go! “ Judges 4:4-8
“So she said, ”I will surely go with you nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hands of a woman…” vs 9.
Deborah was the fourth Judge after Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, in which Barak also came into prominence.
Israel at that time sinned against God as usual so sold them into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan and for twenty years Israel was under oppression. With the help of Deborah and Barak, Israel was delivered by God from king Jabin of Canaan.
In our days something that is more than a coincidence is happening to the most popular democracy in the world. The United States of America has just elected a new President- Obama Barak Hussein; as the 44th President. He has been campaigning and clamoring for change.
Could the Barak that worked with the fourth judge of Israel by synonymous with the forty fourth President of the United State of America? If Barak Obama assumes office as the commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the United States of America; who presumably will be his judge or in this case his Deborah, his guide, his conscience and his voice? To my own understanding of the prophetic times, Barak Obama's Deborah is the church, the church should be recognized as his Deborah.
Deborah challenged Barak's indecision and cowardice. So also the church should decide for Obama Barak.
There are so many people that could stand in the position of a Deborah in the life of Barak Obama:
(1). The Church universal
(2). The Church local
(3). The US congress
(4). The Whole of America
(5). The Whole of the World: though “vox populei vox dei “doesn't always apply. Its not always that the voice of the people is the voice God. Sometimes it may take only one voice in a Nation in the likes of Moses meeting Pharaoh, Elijah meeting Ahab, John the Baptist meeting Herod. And there is every possibility of his wife Mitchel acting in the capacity of a Deborah too. This, we could see more visibly in the life of Martin Luther the German reformer whose wife told him that he's acting as if God is dead, out of timidity of fulfilling God's purpose for his life and people. This challenge pushed him into the reformation with full swing.
Barak Obama's book “Audacity of Hope” was derived from his pastor's sermon “The Audacity to Hope”.
Anyway, in whatever we are doing we need a Deborah as much as a Deborah needs a Barak.

3 Great Proclamations Christ Made After Resurrection
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciple of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, “Teaching them to observe all thing that I have commanded you; and 10, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. “ Amen”. Matt. 28:18-20 (john 21:12-17, Matt.26:75; 28:11-15.)
The advent of Christ has been full of so many challenges. Right from childhood Herod the great wanted the life of the child at adulthood, the high priest, Pharisees, Sadducees and the crowd shouted crucify mine. Him “that deceiver” after resurrection”, the elders gave plenty of money to the soldiers, saying, say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole Him away while we slept”. And to date it is commonly reported among the Jews that Christ's remains was stolen by his disciples. Another big slap on the early Christian faith was the three times denial of Jesus by Peter. It will take the following proclamations to empower the church.
To counter Apostle Peter's denial Christ give him 3 countering Mandate.
1. Feed my Lambs
2. Tend my sheep
3. Feed my sheep
Against each of these countering mandate Christ told the church that they need the following.
1. You'll need my Great claim, “ All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. This you will need to feed lambs, that needs great care and attention in order to establish and pasture them well enough.
2. You'll need my Great commission, “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the father and the son and the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever commanded you”.
This you will need, not like Adam tending the garden but this time Peter and the church is expected to tend the sheep. To teach and teach and teach sheep that have suddenly transformed from lambs to sheep.
3. His great presence, makes Christianity different from other religions. All the other religious leaders are dead and gone but Jesus still guides his church along; little wonder, when Saul was persecuting the church moving from House to House and threatening them with death, Jesus Himself had to appear to him on the way.
In this days of great apostasy, Christ is still very present with His church as He was when He arrested Saul who later turned to become one of the greatest New Testament Church missionaries. If you’ve forgotten everything; don't forget the
1. Great claim
2. Great Commission; and the
3. Great Presence
Wherever you see challenges in life don't forget.
You'll need my great presence: “And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world”.
This you will need not only to tend the sheep but to feed the sheep. At this level of maturity it will take the presence of the LORD ( manifest through the Holy Spirit) to feed, lead and Breed.
At this level the presence of Christ will help in raising and maintaining high moral and ethical standard. At this level of maturity so many have graduated through claimed revelations such as happened through the early church. The cerinthians, the Arians who taught that Jesus has divinity not deity, pre-existence not eternity. That our Lord was subordinate to the father essentially, having been created by Him, and not possessing inherent and eternal self-existence.Gnostics, Nestorians, Appolinarians the Eutychians and many more.
